Deception measures your ability to convincingly hide the truth, either verbally or through your actions. This includes lying, creating false identities, and misdirection.

Example Uses

  • Tell a convincing lie
  • Wear a disguise convincingly
  • Create a false identity
  • Misdirect someone's attention
  • Conceal your true intentions

When to Use Deception

The GM might call for a Charisma (Deception) check when you attempt to:

  • Fast-talk a guard to let you pass
  • Con a merchant into giving you a better deal
  • Create a believable cover story
  • Maintain a disguise under scrutiny
  • Convince someone you're someone else

Difficulty Examples

  • DC 10: Telling a believable white lie to a friend
  • DC 15: Maintaining a simple disguise or cover story
  • DC 20: Convincing someone of an elaborate lie
  • DC 25: Fooling an expert or someone with good reason to be suspicious
