Investigation measures your ability to look around for clues and make deductions based on those clues. It involves logical reasoning, attention to detail, and methodical searching.

Example Uses

  • Find obscure information in books
  • Deduce how something works
  • Piece together clues to solve a mystery
  • Search methodically for hidden objects
  • Analyze evidence to draw conclusions

When to Use Investigation

The GM might call for an Intelligence (Investigation) check when you attempt to:

  • Look for hidden doors or secret compartments
  • Research a topic in a library or archive
  • Piece together the events of a crime
  • Examine a complex mechanism to understand it
  • Follow a paper trail through documents

Difficulty Examples

  • DC 10: Finding obvious clues or researching common knowledge
  • DC 15: Discovering well-hidden objects or obscure information
  • DC 20: Solving complex puzzles or finding expertly concealed items
  • DC 25: Uncovering secrets meant to stay hidden or solving ancient mysteries
