Ability: Wisdom

Survival measures your ability to follow tracks, hunt wild game, guide your group through frozen wastelands, identify signs that owlbears live nearby, predict the weather, or avoid quicksand and other natural hazards.

Example Uses

  • Follow tracks, forage, find a trail, or avoid natural hazards
  • Navigate through wilderness without getting lost
  • Find food and water in the wild
  • Predict weather patterns and natural dangers
  • Track creatures through various terrains

When to Use Survival

The GM might call for a Wisdom (Survival) check when you attempt to:

  • Follow the tracks of a creature through the forest
  • Navigate through unfamiliar wilderness
  • Find food and shelter in the wild
  • Predict incoming weather changes
  • Avoid natural hazards like quicksand or avalanches

Difficulty Examples

  • DC 10: Following obvious tracks or finding food in abundant wilderness
  • DC 15: Tracking in difficult conditions or navigating challenging terrain
  • DC 20: Following old or obscured tracks or surviving in harsh environments
  • DC 25: Tracking a creature that's actively trying to hide its trail
