Bullets (Sling)

Bullets (Sling)

Category: Ammunition
Weight: 1½ lb. per 20 bullets
Cost: 4 CP per 20 bullets
Weapon Type: Sling ammunition

Description

Sling bullets are small, dense projectiles specifically designed for use with slings. Unlike simple stones, sling bullets are carefully crafted for optimal aerodynamics, weight distribution, and impact force.

Usage

Ammunition: Sling bullets are consumed when fired from a sling. Each attack expends one bullet. After combat, you can recover half of your expended bullets by spending 1 minute searching the battlefield.

Compatibility: Designed specifically for slings, providing better accuracy and damage than improvised stones.

Construction Materials

Lead Bullets:

  • Most effective and popular choice
  • Dense material provides maximum impact
  • Easily cast in simple molds
  • Superior to stone in accuracy and damage

Clay Bullets:

  • Cheap alternative for practice or mass production
  • Fired in kilns for hardness
  • Break apart on impact, reducing recovery
  • Good for training and non-lethal practice

Stone Bullets:

  • Carved from hard stones like flint
  • More durable than clay, less effective than lead
  • Can be knapped to specific shapes
  • Available materials vary by region

Bullet Design

Aerodynamic Shape:

  • Ovoid or biconical form for stable flight
  • Carefully balanced weight distribution
  • Smooth surface reduces air resistance
  • Consistent size for reliable performance

Weight Standards:

  • Typically 1-2 ounces per bullet
  • Heavier bullets for maximum impact
  • Lighter bullets for increased range
  • Matched sets for consistent performance

Advantages Over Stones

Performance Benefits:

  • Greater accuracy due to consistent shape
  • Increased range from aerodynamic design
  • More reliable damage output
  • Better penetration against armor

Practical Advantages:

  • Uniform size fits sling pouch perfectly
  • Predictable flight characteristics
  • Professional appearance for military units
  • Can be manufactured to specifications

Field Use

Combat Applications:

  • Effective against lightly armored opponents
  • Good stopping power for the cost
  • Silent ranged attack option
  • Reliable backup ammunition

Hunting Applications:

  • Excellent for small to medium game
  • Cost-effective for subsistence hunting
  • Minimal noise compared to other ranged weapons
  • Easy to carry large quantities

Manufacturing

Home Production:

  • Simple molds allow field manufacture
  • Basic tools required for lead casting
  • Can be made during camp downtime
  • Emergency production from available materials

Professional Quality:

  • Manufactured bullets offer superior consistency
  • Quality control ensures reliable performance
  • Bulk production reduces individual cost
  • Military specifications for standardization

Storage and Transport

Carrying Methods:

  • Dedicated bullet pouches for easy access
  • Small containers prevent rattling noise
  • Separate compartments for different types
  • Quick-access systems for combat readiness

Preservation:

  • Lead bullets resist corrosion
  • Clay bullets need protection from moisture
  • Stone bullets are naturally durable
  • Proper storage prevents damage and loss
